You will be required to provide bank statements & a formal employment letter or if you have a UK resident permit card then will need to sent the original card along with your application and no other resident status document mentioned above would be needed. If you are a UK Citizen then you can travel to Hong Kong and Macau if visiting for less than 90 days. However If you intend to visit Tibet during your China visit, you will have to obtain a Tibet Travel Permit, which will be available from the Tourism Bureau of Tibet Autonomous Region.
